Episode 106 - Amos Zeroes in on Israel (the Northern Kingdom)

Episode Summary

This is part 2 of Amos’ first oracle (Amos 1—2). After dealing with nations surrounding Israel, including Judah (the Southern Kingdom), Amos finally focuses on his main target: Israel. He accuses them of unethical business practices and idolatrous activities. They have participated in this shameful behavior even though God had done so much for them. He paints a picture of judgment in which the image is like a bad dream in which we find ourselves in danger but cannot escape. We cannot hide, our legs will not carry us to safety, we try to scream for help but nothing comes out of our mouth, etc. It is a nightmare! This launches a series of diatribes in the rest of the Book of Amos.
