Episode 88 - Naaman, the Great Syrian Military Officer, a Little Israelite Girl, and Elisha the Israelite Prophet

Hello, !

Episode Summary

This is Part 1 of a two part Podcast. The story is narrated in 2 Kings 5. It introduces Naaman with lavish praise. Curiously, though he has had a successful military career, some of that success is because of Israel’s deity. That is strange in that Syria was often a sworn enemy of Israel. Naaman had everything going for him except for a serious skin condition. The little Israelite girl, who had been abducted and became a slave in Naam’s household, noticed this condition and pointed out to his wife that Israel had a prophet who might be able to deal with this. Naaman ends up going to Israel to meet this prophet. But he took a circuitous route by first going to the king. When he finally gets to the prophet’s house, he is insulted. Elisha sent a messenger to the door to give orders to Naaman to wash in Jordan River. After calming down, Naaman does this and is restored. This first episode ends when Naaman’s effort to offer money as a thank offering is rebuffed, at which point Naaman asks for a gift for himself. What is that gift? Israelite dirt!
