Episode 132 - The Pentecost Texts (Part 2)

Episode Summary

In this Podcast we treat the Pentecost event as narrated in Acts 2. The point is that the author of Acts used the prophecy from the Book of Joel aptly. Joel’s prophecy was about Israel’s restoration, one of the signs of which was that God’s spirit would be available to every Israelite. Likewise, the author of Acts makes the same point. The Pentecost event was a Jewish event, involving Jews exclusively (and a few proselytes). Peter addresses the crowd as a Jewish crowd. Later on in the Book of Acts, Saul/Paul will receive the Holy Spirit and be commissioned to minister to Gentiles. Before long, Gentiles, too, will have access to the Holy Spirit. But the Pentecost event was an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Jews, and Jews alone.
